Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Sir Isaac Newton Education Center ("SINE," "we," "us," or "our") is a private education center serving students in Trinity and Land O' Lakes, Florida. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share information when you use any SINE platform or program, including SINE Math (K–8 curriculum), SINE High School Math, the MATH 2060 supplemental program, and any future SINE programs (collectively, the "Service").

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. We designed this policy to be direct, readable, and honest — not to bury important information in legal language.

2. Information We Collect

Account information (parents): When a parent enrolls, we collect the parent's name, email address, and payment information. Payment is processed by a third-party payment processor; we store only a payment reference token — never your full card number.

Student profile information: We collect the student's first name, last name, grade level, and a system-assigned username. We do not collect student email addresses, phone numbers, photographs, or social media identifiers.

Learning activity data: As students use the platform we record drill session results (questions answered, score, time), quiz scores, advancement history, and current curriculum level. This data powers the progress reports visible to parents.

Parental consent records: We retain your e-signature, consent timestamp, and the version of the agreement you signed as required by COPPA and our internal compliance policy.

Technical data: We log IP addresses and browser type only for security purposes (fraud detection and unauthorized access investigation). We delete access logs after 30 days. We do not use this data for profiling or marketing.

3. How We Use Information

• Deliver the curriculum. Student profiles and learning data are used to present the right lesson, track progress, and calculate scores.
• Parent reporting. Scores, advancement, and worksheet history are displayed in the parent portal so parents can monitor their child's progress.
• Administrative operations. MATH 2060 staff use the admin portal to approve enrollments, adjust placements, and manage billing records.
• Curriculum improvement. We may analyze aggregated, de-identified learning data (e.g., "students at Level D struggle with week 130") to improve our content. Individual student data is never used for this purpose without explicit anonymization.
• Legal compliance. We retain records as required by COPPA, Florida state education law, and our obligations as a financial account holder.

We do not use student data to build behavioral profiles, target advertising, or make automated decisions that affect students outside the curriculum.

4. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We share data only with the essential service providers that power the platform:

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or court order, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of a student or the public. We will notify affected families before any such disclosure to the extent permitted by law.

5. Children Under 13 — COPPA Compliance

Verifiable parental consent: Before a student account is activated, a parent or legal guardian must complete our enrollment form and digitally sign our Parental Consent Agreement. We record your name, email, timestamp, and the agreement version. No student account is accessible until this consent is on file.

What parents can do at any time:

• Review all personal information we have collected about their child
• Request correction of any inaccurate information
• Request deletion of their child's account and all associated data
• Refuse to permit further collection or use of their child's information by canceling enrollment

No targeted advertising to children. We do not use student data for targeted or behavioral advertising, and we do not share it with any advertising network.

6. Parental Rights & Controls

As the parent or legal guardian of an enrolled student, you have the following rights regarding your child's data:

We will verify your identity before honoring any data request. We will not discriminate against any parent who exercises these rights.

7. Data Retention

• Active accounts: All student and parent data is retained for as long as the account remains enrolled and active.
• After cancellation: We retain data for 90 days after enrollment ends to allow for re-enrollment or data export requests. After 90 days, student learning data and profiles are deleted.
• Parental consent records: Retained for 3 years after the agreement expires, as required by applicable law.
• Billing records: Retained for 7 years as required by tax and financial regulations. These records contain only parent information, never student data.
• Security logs: IP access logs are deleted after 30 days.
• Backup systems: Deleted data is removed from all backup systems within 60 days of the primary deletion.

8. Security

We take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect the personal information we hold:

• Encryption in transit: All communication between your browser and our servers uses TLS 1.2 or higher (HTTPS).
• Encryption at rest: Data is stored with our third-party cloud database provider and encrypted at rest using industry-standard encryption.
• Access controls: Only authorized MATH 2060 staff members can access student records. Staff access requires multi-factor authentication. Access is logged and reviewed.
• Authentication: Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms. We do not store plain-text passwords.
• No student data on personal devices: Staff policy prohibits storing student information on personal devices or unapproved services.

Despite these measures, no internet transmission or storage system is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach that affects student personal information, we will notify affected parents within 72 hours of discovery, in accordance with applicable law.

9. State Privacy Rights

Florida residents — FERPA alignment: Although SINE Education Center is a private tutoring program and not a "school" subject to FERPA in all respects, we voluntarily adopt FERPA's standards for education records. Parents retain the right to inspect and review all records we maintain about their student.

California residents — CCPA / CPRA: California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, the right to opt out of sale (we do not sell data), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights. Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA): We do not use student data for targeted advertising. We do not build a profile of a student for non-educational purposes. We do not sell student information.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:

• Post the updated policy at this URL with a new "Last Updated" date
• Send an email notification to all enrolled parents at least 14 days before the changes take effect
• For changes that affect how we handle children's data under COPPA, obtain fresh parental consent before continuing to collect or use data under the new terms

Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
